Luis Garcia is a retired 28 year South Florida Firefighter/Paramedic who has also been a 26 year American Heart Association Instructor, Regional Faculty and Instructor-Trainer in all facets of resuscitation (ACLS, PALS, BLS). During his career, he responded to over 3,000 overdose calls as a 911 Paramedic. Since retiring seven years ago, Luis has worked as an Emergency Responder for a National Restoration Company. This job allows him to respond as a layperson Good Samaritan citizen to life-threatening emergencies.  Because he monitors fire scanner radios as part of his job, he often hears of nearby cardiac arrest drug overdose situations.  He has personally administered the Narcan nasal spray to 12 persons and saved nine lives in public settings. On International Overdose Awareness Day 2017, he launched his Facebook page called South Florida Opioid Crisis Mortality Reduction Project. Luis went out and spent his savings to purchase 800 Narcan nasal sprays to distribute across Florida. As of July 31, 2018, Luis has conducted over 30 free 2-hour classes and distributed over 550 sprays. Seventy-three persons who attended his class have used the Narcan to save a life in its eleven months of existence. In his spare time, Luis enjoys time with his teenage sons Tony and Vinny. He also is passionate about dancing and is actively studying Argentine Tango and West Coast Swing. His passion is Hustle dancing. Luis is a lifelong resident of Florida since moving here from Colombia at the age of three. He has been very involved in other social issues such as domestic violence awareness.
